This is the future home of The Stream, a newsletter about writing about writing, music, creativity, and life.
I’m still heading into this cautiously, with some hesitation. I’m not sure if I want to navigate yet another online writing platform, but do see the user-friendly aspect at SubStack.
I started writing online as a wannabe blogger in 2012 after self-publishing my first book, A Train Called Forgiveness. I worked my butt off trying to create a blog that might see some financial success. It never really happened. Sold a couple hundred copies of my book. Didn't quit the day job.
I wrote about everything from writing to productivity to music to minimalism to blogging itself. Last year, I allowed all my old blogs to die and started a single new site, www.danstevenerickson.com. I have no delusions or expectations of becoming famous there or here or anywhere, but honestly just love to write.
I really have a wide variety of creative interests. I’m a songwriter, electronic music composer, poet, and amateur photographer. I despise the idea of “niche” yet often find myself stuck in that loop.
My hope for this place is that just maybe it will allow me to stop getting stuck in that loop, to write what I feel, when I feel, and how I feel. And if I choose to write more experimentally like James Joyce or Cormac McCarthy.
I might start slowly, but it’s a new year and I could at least try a new thing. - dse
